The Red Storm receives its highest preseason ranking since the 2021 season
NEW YORK – The St. John's softball team was voted to finish third in the 2025 BIG EAST Softball Coaches' Preseason Poll, the conference announced on Friday.
This marks the Red Storm's highest preseason ranking since the 2021 season when it was also picked third. The Johnnies received 46 points and trailed the defending BIG EAST Champion Villanova Wildcats, who garnered 61 points, including six first-place votes, and UConn, who picked up 57 points and two first-place votes. Finishing behind St John's were Creighton (43 and one first-place vote), Seton Hall (39), Butler (28), Providence (27), DePaul (14) and Georgetown (9).
Head Coach Michelle DePolo enters her second year at the helm of the St. John's softball program. In 2024, the Red Storm tallied its third-highest win total in program history with 31 victories, including two triumphs in the BIG EAST Tournament against Seton Hall and Butler.
2024 Unanimous BIG EAST First-Team selection London Jarrard returns to Queens for her senior season in 2025. The shortstop dominated in conference play last year, ranking top five in the BIG EAST in batting average (.405), slugging percentage (.716), on-base percentage (.506), runs scored (19), hits (30), RBIs (22), home runs (6) and total bases (53).
Jarrard also set the program's single-season RBI record with 51 and enters the 2025 campaign just two doubles shy of setting a new program record for two-baggers.
The 2025 squad will also feature juniors Jess Bianco and Ana Serafinko, who were both tabbed to the All-BIG EAST Second Team last season. Bianco sat atop the Red Storm's batting lineup for most games last season, batting .352 with 30 runs scored, 25 stolen bases and 19 walks. The center fielder has been a threat on the basepaths her entire career, swiping 68 bases in her first two seasons.
Serafinko broke out both inside the circle and the batter's box for the Johnnies last season. The two-way star led the pitching staff in ERA (2.38), innings pitched (150) and strikeouts (174) while also tallying nine doubles, five home runs and 17 RBIs on offense.
DePolo and the Red Storm will kick off the 2025 season on Feb. 7 when it heads to Texas to take on Houston Christian and Houston.
