Bianco receives conference recognition for the third time this season
NEW YORK — St. John's softball's Jess Bianco earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after a strong weekend at the plate for the Red Storm, the conference announced Monday.
The placement marks Bianco's third inclusion in the BIG EAST Weekly Awards of the season, previously making the honor roll on Feb. 9 before being named the conference's player of the week on Feb. 23.
Throughout a 2-1 series win over DePaul from April 2-4, Bianco batted .667 (6-for-9) across three starts, driving in five runs while scoring three times. The center fielder reached base at a .750 clip, drawing two walks and being hit by a pitch while also swiping two bases in two attempts. Bianco did not strike out during the stretch and was flawless defensively, recording three putouts without committing an error. Bianco also tallied three hits in each of the Johnnies' first two meetings with the Blue Demons.
The senior currently leads the Red Storm and the BIG EAST in hits with 57 while boasting a team-best .419 batting average.
Bianco and St. John's return to action tomorrow at 3 p.m., hosting local foe Hofstra at 3 p.m. in Queens. The contest will be broadcast on ESPN+ with live stats available on RedStormSports.com.
