St. John’s Cheer Team Captures First Place in University World Cup Cheerleading Championships’ Small Coed Game Day Competition; Dance Takes Third in Game Day

Red Storm cheer team earned 93.6 points for first place in the University World Cup Cheerleading Championships’ Small Coed Game Day competition
ORLANDO, Fla. – The St. John's dance and cheer teams wrapped up another successful season of competition at the Universal Dance Association and Universal Cheer Association National Championships in Orlando, Fla., at Disney's ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
In its first appearance in the event, the Red Storm cheer team took home first place at the University World Cup Cheerleading Championships in the Small Coed Game Day competition. The team earned a final score of 93.6 in the event.
The cheer squad also staked a sixth-place effort off a score of 90.5 in the Small Coed Division I Game Day Finals.
The dance team grabbed third place in the Division I Dance Game Day Finals, finishing with a score of 88.8. The group was edged by Southeastern Louisiana and Hofstra, who claimed the title. Last season, the Johnnies earned second place in the Open Spirit Game Day section.
In the Division I Jazz competition, the dance team placed 10th out of 31 other teams in the event. The group finished with a final score of 83.9 in its last competition of the weekend.
The Red Storm dance and cheer squads will be back in action on Wednesday when the St. John's men's basketball team takes on Xavier inside Madison Square Garden at 7 p.m.
