QUEENS, N.Y. – St. John's men's basketball junior RJ Luis Jr.  was named to the USBWA Oscar Robertson Trophy National Team of the Week, the organization announced on Tuesday.
Â
The Miami native was one of five players from across the country recognized as the nation's top players last week. Luis is joined by Jamar Brown (Kansas City), Nelly Junior Joseph (New Mexico), Trey Kaufman-Renn (Purdue) and CJ Walker (East Carolina).
Â
Luis becomes the first St. John's player to earn the honor since former Johnnie and current San Antionio Spur Julian Champagnie on Feb. 22, 2022.
Â
Luis averaged 19.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals in consecutive wins last week over top-20 teams as the Johnnies defeated then-No. 11/11 Marquette and then-No. 19/18 UConn.

The weekly award marks the fifth for Luis after his stellar performances in back-to-back nationally ranked victories. He was also named to NCAA March Madness, Naismith Trophy, Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association and BIG EAST Player of the Week.
Â
Luis and The No. 9/8 St. John's men's basketball team will return to the hardwood Wednesday when it faces Villanova on the road at 6 p.m. on FS1.
