QUEENS, N.Y. – St. John's junior RJ Luis Jr. is featured on 'This Week in the BIG EAST', presented by Westwood One, ahead of St. John's matchup with RV/RV UConn on Sunday at Madison Square Garden. The 6-foot-7 wing from Miami has starred for the No. 10/9 Red Storm this season, helping the team to a 23-4 overall record and sole possession of first place in the conference standings with a 14-2 mark in BIG EAST play.
Luis joins Westwood One Radio hosts John Rooke and Kevin McNamara to discuss this 2024-25 season, which has featured numerous milestones that the program has not reached in decades under the leadership of Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Head Coach Rick Pitino.
Luis currently leads the team and ranks fourth in the BIG EAST averaging 17.6 points per game to go with 7.2 rebounds per contest. He also tops the conference with eight double-doubles and has scored in double figures in 25 of 26 appearances. Luis has helped the Johnnies record 14 BIG EAST victories this season, the program's most since the 1998-99 campaign. St. John's has also been ranked in the top-25 for five-straight weeks.
Luis and the Red Storm will look to complete the regular season sweep of two-time National Champion UConn for the first time since 1999-2000 on Sunday at Madison Square Garden. In the first meeting on Feb. 7, St. John's earned a 68-62 win over the Huskies at Gampel Pavilion. Luis Jr. registered 21 points and seven rebounds in the victory. FOX will carry the national broadcast from Midtown Manhattan with tip-off slated for 12 p.m.
