QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's men's basketball team continues to ascend in the national polls reaching No. 7 in the Associated Press (AP) poll and No. 7 in the USA Today Coaches' poll on Monday.
The No. 7 ranking, moving up three spots from last week, marks the highest placement in the AP poll since St. John's checked in seventh on Dec. 2, 1991. The Johnnies have been ranked inside the top-10 in the media poll for the third straight week for the first since the 1998-99 season.
The Johnnies have now been included in the national polls for six consecutive weeks, their longest stretch since the 1998-99 team spent 16 straight weeks ranked, reaching as high as No. 8 in the country in the AP poll.
St. John's slid up two spots in the USA Today Coaches' poll to seventh and has been ranked inside the top-10 in each of the last four weeks.
The Red Storm boasts a 24-4 overall record and a 15-2 mark in BIG EAST play. The Johnnies captured 13 of their last 14 contests and matched a program record with their 15th BIG EAST victory on Sunday. The 15 league wins are the most since the program's last outright BIG EAST Regular Season Championship and NCAA Tournament Final Four appearance in 1984-85. St. John's is 17-0 at home this season and ranks second in the country in defensive efficiency, according to the advance metrics of KenPom.
St. John's will return to the hardwood on Wednesday in Indianapolis when it faces Butler at 9 p.m. ET at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
