Red Storm record highest mark in end of season national polls in 25 years
QUEENS, N.Y. – The St. John's men's basketball team ranked No. 11 in the final Associated Press poll and No. 10 in the USA Today Coaches' poll released on Tuesday.
The final rankings for both major national polls were released after the 2024-25 season ended on Monday night with Florida winning the National Championship.
St. John's achieved its highest final AP poll ranking since the 1999-2000 season when the Johnnies finished the year at No. 9. The Red Storm climbed as high as No. 5 in the country in both major polls, the program's highest mark since Jan. 29, 1991.
St. John's strung together a remarkable season, winning both the BIG EAST Regular Season and Tournament Championships in dominant fashion. The Johnnies tallied a 31-5 overall record, tying the program record for most wins in a single season and went an undefeated 21-0 in New York City.
Head Coach Rick Pitino was named USBWA, AP, and Naismith National Coach of the Year, winning each honor for the first time in his decorated career. The active winningest coach in NCAA Division I holds a collegiate record of 885-311 and became the first-ever coach to lead six different schools to the NCAA Tournament.
