Rick Pitino to Throw Ceremonial First Pitch at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday

QUEENS, N.Y. – St. John's Men's Basketball Head Coach and 2024-25 National Coach of the Year Rick Pitino will throw out the ceremonial first pitch at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday before the New York Yankees and Cleveland Guardians matchup at 7:05 in the Bronx. The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer receives the honor in celebration of the Red Storm's historic 2024-25 campaign.

During Wednesday's game Pitino will also join the Yankees Radio Network on WFAN 660AM / 101.9FM with broadcasters Dave Sims and Suzyn Waldman. The interview will be live on the radio dial and streamed online here.

In just his second season at the helm, Pitino led the Red Storm to its first BIG EAST Regular Season and Tournament Championships in a quarter century. St. John's earned a No. 2 seed in the 2025 NCAA Tournament as the native New Yorker became the first coach to bring six different programs to the Big Dance. Pitino received six different coach of the year awards, including three of the four major national coach of the year honors. Under his leadership, St. John's tied a program record with 31 victories and climbed as high as No. 5 in the Associated Press Poll for the first time since 1991.
