Red Storm ranked no. 17 in the Associated Press poll and no. 16 in USA TODAY Coaches Top 25
QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's men's basketball team checked in at no. 17 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll and slid up one spot to no. 16 in the USA TODAY Coaches' poll on Monday.
The Johnnies received 590 voting points in the AP poll and 315 in the Coaches edition of the rankings. St. John's joins No. 5/5 UConn as the only two BIG EAST schools to be ranked. Villanova is receiving votes in both polls.
The Red Storm finds itself in the AP Top-25 for the 10th week this season and fourth consecutive. The Johnnies started the season at no. 5 their highest preseason ranking in program history and have cracked the poll 23 times over the last two seasons. That matches the most total weeks in the top 25 in a two-season span since 1998-2000 (23).
In the USA Today Coaches poll, the Red Storm moved up one spot after re-entering the rankings on Jan. 19. St. John's has been included in 13 of the 16 coaches polls this season. Dating back to Jan. 20, 2025 the Johnnies have been ranked in the USA TODAY Coaches poll in 23 out of 26 possible weeks.
St. John's has captured 11-straight BIG EAST wins and is off to a 13-1 start in conference play, both mark the program's best marks since the 1984-85 season. The 11-game winning streak ranks tied fourth longest currently in NCAA Division I and the program's longest since the Johnnies went 12-0 to begin the 2018-19 campaign.
On Saturday, the Red Storm set a new program record capturing its 10th straight BIG EAST road win over the Friars, 79-69. The Johnnies have started the season 7-0 away from home for the first time since 1929-1930, when they won their first seven road games and went 23-1 that season.
The Red Storm will return to the hardwood on Wednesday night to take on Marquette at 9 p.m. ET at Fiserv Forum. The contest from Milwaukee will air on TNT.
