QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's men's basketball program rose up in the national rankings on Monday moving to no. 22 in the Associated Press poll and no. 22 in the USA TODAY Coaches poll.
The Johnnies received 133 voting points in the AP poll and 95 in the Coaches edition of the rankings. St. John's joins No. 2/3 Connecticut as the only two BIG EAST schools to be ranked.
The Johnnies started the season at no. 5 their highest preseason ranking in program history and have cracked the poll 21 times over the last two seasons. That marks the most total weeks in the top 25 in a two-season span since 1998-2000 (23).
In the USA Today Coaches poll, the Red Storm slid up two spots to no. 22 after re-entering the rankings on Jan. 19. St. John's has been included in 12 of the 15 coaches polls this season. Dating back to Jan. 20, 2025, the Johnnies have been ranked in the USA TODAY Coaches poll in 22 out of 25 possible weeks.
The Red Storm has rattled off seven consecutive victories dating back to Jan. 6 and is 9-1 in BIG EAST play for the second straight season. Prior to last year, the Johnnies had not started conference competition with a 9-1 record since 1984-85.
St. John's has won its first five road games to start the season for the first time since the 1982-83 campaign, when it started 6-0 away from home. Dating back to last season, the Red Storm has recorded eight straight BIG EAST wins on the road, the most by any program in the league since Villanova rattled off 13 consecutively from Jan. 31, 2015 to Feb. 9, 2016. The Johnnies currently sit in sole possession of second place in the conference standings at 9-1, trailing the Huskies by 1.5 games.
The Red Storm will be back in action Tuesday at DePaul for an 8 p.m. ET tip-off at Wintrust Arena on Peacock.
