QUEENS, N.Y. - The St. John's men's basketball team climbed up the national polls moving to no. 17 in the Associated Press Top-25 and no. 17 in the USA TODAY Coaches poll on Monday.
The Johnnies received 524 voting points in the AP poll and 259 in the Coaches edition of the rankings. St. John's joins No. 6/5 UConn as the only two BIG EAST schools to be ranked.
The Red Storm finds itself in the AP Top-25 for the ninth week this season and third consecutive. The Johnnies started the season at no. 5, their highest preseason ranking in program history and have cracked the poll 22 times over the last two seasons. That marks the most total weeks in the top 25 in a two-season span since 1998-2000 (23).
In the USA Today Coaches poll, the Red Storm rose five spots to no. 17 after re-entering the rankings on Jan. 19. St. John's has been included in 12 of the 15 coaches polls this season. Dating back to Jan. 20, 2025, the Johnnies have been ranked in the USA TODAY Coaches poll in 23 out of 26 possible weeks.
St. John's has won nine games in a row dating back to Jan. 6, which ranks the second longest streak amongst high major Division I programs, trailing only undefeated and top-ranked Arizona. The Red Storm is off to an 11-1 start in BIG EAST play for the second straight season and its nine-game conference winning streak ranks the third longest in program history.
On Friday, the Red Storm downed then-No. 3/3 UConn, 81-72, for its highest ranked win since it defeated No. 3/3 Villanova on Feb. 3, 2021 at Carnesecca Arena. The victory snapped an 18-game winning streak for the Huskies and moved the Johnnies to a half game back of the lead in the BIG EAST standings.
The Red Storm will be back in action tonight when it meets Xavier for a 6:30 p.m. tip-off at Madison Square Garden on FS1.
