Dominic was promoted to associate athletic director for athletic communications in November 2002.
He begins his eighth year at St. John's, formerly serving as director of media relations. Dominic has developed a strong relationship with the local and national media during his tenure, serving as primary contact for men's basketball and men's lacrosse while supervising the department's 18 intercollegiate athletic programs. A driving force behind all television and radio efforts for football and men's basketball, Dominic serves as associate producer for "The Red Storm Report," a weekly St. John's men's basketball TV show seen on the Madison Square Garden Network, and was responsible for negotiating television contract terms for the show with MSG. In addition, he assisted in securing St. John's new radio team with Nelligan Sports Marketing to broadcast this year's men's basketball games on 1050AM ESPN.
Dominic has led a new Web site initiative by signing on with the Official College Sports Network (OCSN) to restructure St. John's site on the Internet, www.RedStormSports.com. The new site, which will be launched in November 2003, features new graphics, branding and webcasting, as well as live statistics.
The Athletic Communications staff has won numerous citations of merit during his tenure, including "Best Cover in the Nation" for the 1999 women's soccer guide and 1997 men's basketball guide, as voted by the College Sports Information Directors of America. The 1999 men's soccer guide was also lauded for best content and layout in the nation in 2000.
Dominic came to St. John's with a vast background in both marketing and public relations. In 1989, he joined Edelman Worldwide, making a significant contribution to their sports marketing division. His strengths lie in writing, national media relations, consumer marketing and oral presentation skills that enabled him to be a key contributor at Edelman.
While at Edelman, Dominic supervised accounts for clients which included Nike Inc., ABC Sports, Brown-Forman Beverages Worldwide, the U.S. Soccer Federation for World Cup '94, the Illinois Bureau of Tourism and the Rosemont Horizon (one of Chicago's largest entertainment facilities).His sports marketing experience began as public relations director for the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame in 1987, where he created marketing programs for the organization's 32 chapters across the country. He also served as a freelance writer for the Chicago Sun-Times, covering high school and college sports in the Chicago area for more than 15 years. In 1981, Dominic worked as an associate producer for Public Television's "Kup's Show" with host Irv Kupcinet. The show won a Chicago Emmy award for "Best Weekly Informational Talk Show Series" that same year.
Scianna, 43, received his Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from Columbia College of Chicago. He and his wife, Kerri, have been married for 18 years and reside in Bayside, N.Y., with their two sons, Peter, 14, and Anthony, 11.
