As a Junior (2009): Started all of the team[apos]s 14 games in goal ... posted a 5-1 record in the team[apos]s first six games ... saved 140 shots for a save percentage of .453 ... had a career-best .526 save percentage in a win over Holy Cross (Feb. 14) ... posted a 10.76 GAA, allowing 150 goals on 478 shots ... played all but 8 minutes during the season, totaling 836.17 minutes overall ... saved 15 of 39 shots in a win over #5 Georgetown, earning ECAC Defensive Player of the Week honors (Feb. 28) ... had a career-high in saves and ground balls against Penn State with 19 saves and 6 ground balls (April 11) ... on the season, earned three ECAC weekly honors and named to the ECAC All-Academic Team with the second-best GPA in the entire conference.
As A Sophomore (2008): Played in 10 games, starting seven ... posted a 2-5 record, and was 2-2 in conference play with wins over Penn State (April 12) and Fairfield (April 26) ... was ranked as high as 37th in goals against average and 42nd in save percentage among the NCAA[apos]s top 100 players ... finished the season ranked eighth in the conference with a 10.33 GAA and ninth in save percentage (.497) and saves per game (7.80) ... had 18 saves at No. 1 Duke (May 4), earning ECAC Honor Roll accolades ... honored as ECAC Co-Defensive Player of the Week for his 11 saves, a save percentage of .523 and win against Penn State (April 12) ... was the only non-senior to earn ECAC weekly honors ... had double-digit saves on four occasions, at Quinnipiac (Feb. 25), at Georgetown (March 1), vs. Penn State and at Duke ... earned ECAC All-Academic team honors and was second in the conference with a 3.83 GPA.
As A Freshman (2007): Made his debut in goal against Georgetown (March 3) in the Red Storm[apos]s home-opener, saving two of four shots faced ... saw time between the pipes at Fairfield (April 29) ... totaled 7:20 minutes in the net for the season ... inducted into the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society.
Before St. John[apos]s: Playing for DeMatha high school, was named first team all-conference for the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC), second team Washington Post All-Met, a high school All-American and the conference championship game most valuable player in 2006 ... named first team All-WCAC and honorable mention All-Met for the D.C. area in 2005 ... member of four-straight WCAC league championship teams (2002-06) ... recorded 25 saves in his senior year against top-ranked Georgetown Prep ... was a three-year member of the National Honor Society ... graduated with a 3.75 GPA and a four-year honor roll student.
Off The Field: Gavin Scott Buckley... born in Gaithersburg, Md. ... son of James and Lynn Buckley ... has two brothers, Jimmy (21), who attends Gettysburg College, and Logan (15), and two sisters, Alison (17), and Maggi (13) ... his cousin, Tommy Mutter, plays football at Glenville State ... an English major with a minor in government and politics ... plays to attend law school ... a member of the honors program, he was accepted into the B.A./M.A. graduate program for the St. John[apos]s English Department ... the most thrilling moment in his career was winning the WCAC Championship as a captain his senior year, giving DeMatha its eighth-straight championship ... plays Rage Against the Machine on his iPod on game day.
