Greg St. Jean is in his fourth season as an assistant coach on the St. John's men's basketball staff in 2018-19. One of the top young basketball minds in the college game, St. Jean primarily manages scouting and game planning responsibilities, oversees the player development program, and directs the team's video operations and statistical analysis.
St. Jean’s precociousness has not gone with notice, as he was recognized in May by the National Association of Basketball Coaches with a selection to the organization’s 30-under-30 list, an accolade that highlights up-and-coming coaches in the game of college basketball.
Prior to his arrival in Queens, St. Jean spent the previous two years working for the Sacramento Kings, serving as the assistant player development coach during the 2014-2015 season. The youngest member of an NBA coaching staff at the time, St. Jean, 24, helped manage the on-court training of Kings players, which included working with two-time All-NBA Second Team selection and four-time NBA All-Star DeMarcus Cousins, by implementing video and skill development sessions. St. Jean also generated extensive personnel reports and statistical analysis that were instrumental in the scouting process.
A member of the 2014 Sacramento Kings Summer League coaching staff, St. Jean helped guide the team to a 6-1 record and a league championship. He was elevated to an analytics and player development position prior to the 2014-15 season and worked with Rudy Gay, a former All-BIG EAST First Team honoree and Second Team All-American, as well as current Denver Nuggets point guard and NBA All-Star Isaiah Thomas.
The San Francisco Bay Area native joined the Kings organization prior to the 2013-14 campaign as a member of the video operations department. St. Jean was responsible for film break down of the team's individual workouts, practices, games, and upcoming opponents. He assisted with all on-court activities and managed intercollegiate and international video analysis for the NBA Draft and free agency.
St. Jean spent two summers with the Brooklyn Nets where he assisted with the NBA Draft combine, free agent minicamp, summer league practices, and player development workouts. He was a member of the Nets coaching staff for the NBA Summer League in Orlando. In this role, he was responsible for managing in-game statistics, film preparation, scouting, and all on-court activities.
A three-year team captain at Wesleyan University, St. Jean ranked in the top-10 of NCAA Division III in free-throw shooting percentage (89.3) as a freshman. He helped lead the Cardinals to the program's single-season wins record in 2011-12 and was a member of Wesleyan's Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). His father, Garry St. Jean, coached 17 years in the NBA and was the Golden State Warriors general manager from 1998-2004.
