During Carew's four-year span, St. John's boasted a 33-3 team record, the highest ever in school history at the time of his induction. He was a member of the freshman division of the ICAAAA National Championship title and was a nine time varsity letter winner for indoor and outdoor track and cross country. In his post St. John's days, he went on to write a national bestseller, “You'll Never Get No For An Answer.”
