Joseph J. Schneider

Arguably the greatest decathlete in St. John's history, Joe Schneider was twice named an All-American and finished the 1979 and 1980 outdoor track seasons ranked in the national top five. Schneider was a three-time Intercollegiate Association of Amateur Athletics of American decathlon champion and two-time BIG EAST champion in the multievent discipline, adding individual conference titles in the pole vault and javelin. He also won the pentathlon title at the famed Penn Relays. Schneider graduated St. John's as the school record holder in the decathlon, pole vault and javelin.
