Honsberger served St. Johns for three decades, as a teacher, a chaplain with the United States Air Force and, on three separate occasions, Moderator of Athletics and Chairman of the Board of Athletic Control. Alternating between St. John's and the military, he was the Moderator of Athletics 1951-53, 1959-60 and 1967- 72.
