A catcher and the captain of the 1940 squad that posted a 12-2 record, Ferrara posted a career batting average of nearly .400 in three seasons at St. John's. Ferrara helped St. John's win backtoback Metropolitan Intercollegiate Conference championships in 1939 and 1940.
