Cook Named BIG EAST Co-Rookie of the Week

Cook averaged 14.3 points, 9.3 assists and 3.3 steals as he helped to guide the Red Storm, ranked No. 24 in the country by the Associated Press and in the ESPN/USA Today polls, to a 2-1 start.
In the season opener, Cook scored 18 points and grabbed five assists, including one of the basket that gave St. Johns a 62-61 win over Kentucky in the opening round of the Coaches vs. Cancer IKON Classic. In the championship game against Kansas, he scored 17 points, handed out six assists, recorded six steals and grabbed four boards in an 82-74 loss. For his efforts, Cook was named to the All-Tournament team.
This past Saturday, the Red Storm hosted Stony Brook in the home opener and Cook put on a clinic in distribution, handing out a school-record 17 assists in a 92-62 win. Cook, who had 11 first-half assists, broke Mark Jacksons record, set on Feb. 3, 1986 against Providence.
St. Johns (2-1) returns to action on Saturday, hosting Niagara at 2 p.m. at Alumni Hall.
