St. Johns Athletics to Sponsor Toy Drive

JAMAICA, N.Y. -- The St. Johns University Department of Athletics will be holding its annual toy drive on December 16. The department is asking all fans to bring toys (unwrapped) to the Red Storms game against Hofstra on December 16 at Nassau Veteran Memorial Coliseum.

We hope that all of our fans will take part in this very special event, Associate Vice President and Director of Athletics Edward J. Manetta, Jr. said. This is a great way to help those in need during the holidays.

The Annual Toy Drive is held in conjunction with the St. Johns Bread & Life Program, which serves over 1,000 meals a day to the needy and homeless in New York City. The program offers many other services, including HIV/AIDS testing, support and counseling, employment counseling, medical treatment and a whole range of services which help poor and hungry New Yorkers to restore hope and human dignity.

St. Johns Bread and Life is also sponsoring an Adopt-a-Family for Christmas 2000 program. A donation of $50 will sponsor one family; $100 for two families; $250 for five families; $500 for 10 families; $1,250 for 25 families; $2,500 for 50 families and $5,000 for 100 families.
