The Coaches vs. Cancer IKON Classic boasts four of the top-11 schools on the list of all-time winningest programs in college basketball history. The winners of tonights game will meet on Friday night for the championship. The consolation game will tip off at 6:30 p.m.
St. Johns finished the 1999-2000 season with a 25-8 overall record and its first BIG EAST Tournament Championship since winning the title in 1986. They enter this season with only two returning starters - senior forward Reggie Jessie and junior forward Anthony Glover - along with one other letterwinner - junior forward Donald Emanuel. Head Coach Mike Jarvis will have nine newcomers, led by freshman point guard Omar Cook, to integrate into the rotation this season.
Kentucky finished the 1999-2000 season with a 23-10 overall record and a 12-4 mark in the Southeastern Conference. They advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and finished the season ranked 19th by the Associated Press and 22nd in the ESPN/USA Today rankings.
