JAMAICA, N.Y. ' Former St. John's University men's basketball standout Rowan Barrett (Scarborough, Ontario, Canada/West Hill Collegiate Institute) scored 21 points and grabbed four rebounds to lead the Canadian Olympic men's basketball team to a 99-54 win over Angola during the preliminary round of competition at the Sydney 2000 Summer Olympic Games.
The Canadian team, which upset host Australia, 101-90, on Sunday, improved to 2-0 with the win in Australia today. Barrett scored a team-high 21 points and grabbed five rebounds during the win over Australia.
Barrett, who played at St. John's from 1992-96, averaged 5.5 points and 2.0 rebounds in 104 career games. He enjoyed his best season as a senior, finishing third on the team in scoring with 10.0 points per game, while grabbing 2.6 rebounds.
Team Canada is next in action on Thursday, playing Spain.
