In all, 104 players were selected in the College and the NBA Supplemental Drafts. League play begins on November 17, with training camp opening in the first week of November.
Lavor Postell (Albany, Ga./Westover), a second-team All-BIG EAST selection as a senior who ranks 15th all-time in scoring at St. John's, was selected fourth in the NBA Supplemental Draft by the Trenton Stars. Postell, who was named the BIG EAST's Scholar-Athlete of the Year, graduating with a 3.15 grade point average in Spanish, was a second round selection of the New York Knicks in this year's National Basketball Association Draft.
In the college portion of the draft, guard Chudney Gray (Bronx, N.Y./Rice) was the first pick of the third round, 17th overall, by the Baltimore BayRunners. Gray, a four-year veteran for the Red Storm, had his best season as a senior, averaging 8.0 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game. Gray played with the Chicago Bulls during the NBA Summer League and was named the United States Basketball League's Rookie of the Year this past summer. Gray played for the Long Island Surf, averaging 17.3 points per game, 5.1 assists and 2.5 steals per game.
The BayRunners also took the local route, selecting former shooting guard Bootsy Thornton (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar) with the first pick of the third round, the 41st overall selection. Thornton, who played with the Washington Wizards during the NBA Summer League, was a third-team All-BIG EAST selection last year and finished third on the team in scoring, averaging 15.3 points per game.
The League features a modified, single-entry structure, a diverse talent pool of top-level players and an educational program unique to professional sports.
