In his new role, Smith will oversee the equipment operations for all 22 St. Johns Division I intercollegiate sports.
Smith, who graduated from St. Johns this past weekend, is no stranger to the athletic program. He has served as the team manager for the Red Storm baseball team for the last four years.
In his work with the baseball team, Smith handled the day-to-day operations in the office, assisting with the programs budget and camp setup, travel plans, meal money, equipment orders, academic studies and mailings for Head Coach Ed Blankmeyer and the coaching staff.
As a result of his work as an undergraduate, Smith earned the James Kevin Beatty Memorial Award, recognizing the St. Johns team manager who shows a resilient work ethic and positive attitude toward his work, both as a freshman and as a senior.
A native of Carthage, in Northern New York, Smith earned his bachelors degree in sports administration. He spent last summer as an intern in the offices of Major League Baseball in New York City, and worked for the New York Penn Leagues Queens Kings (now the Brooklyn Cyclones) during the summer of 2000.
