2003 Men's Soccer Outlook

Bitter. Cold. Hard.
Those were the weather conditions at Belson Stadium last December, when St. John's hosted Creighton in a third round NCAA Tournament match, with the winner one step closer to the NCAA College Cup.
It also matched the feelings of the Red Storm team that blustery afternoon, especially after the Bluejays scored a goal in the second overtime period, lifting the visitors from Nebraska to a stunning 1-0 overtime win.
The eight returning starters and xx returning letterwinners carried those feelings with them through a spring and summer full of conditioning and practice.
Now, nearly nine months later, with the start of the 2003 season - the team's first full slate in its state-of-the-art on-campus field - Belson Stadium - the St. John's men's soccer team is ready to use that ending as the beginning of what they hope will be one of the most successful seasons in program history.
That's a lot to expect, considering the 2002 was one of the most memorable in recent years, but with a strong cast of returnees, plus a solid recruiting class, the pieces are in place.
