NEW YORK (AP) - Andre Barrett was 4-for-6 from 3-point range and scored 21 points to lead Seton Hall to a 71-54 victory over St. John's on Saturday at Madison Square Garden, the Pirates' eighth straight win.
Kelly Whitney had 15 points for the Pirates (11-2, 1-0 Big East), while J.R. Morris added 11 and Marcus Toney-El 10.
Freshman Lamont Hamilton had 14 points for the Red Storm (4-8, 0-2), while Elijah Ingram added 11 and Kyle Cuffe 10. St. John's dropped to 2-4 under interim coach Kevin Clark.
Whitney hit two jumpers as Seton Hall opened an 8-2 lead. Barrett scored six straight points in a 9-2 run that made it 17-8, and the Pirates went on to lead 31-23 at halftime.
Grady Reynolds hit a 3-pointer that brought St. John's within 37-32, but Barrett hit two 3s as Seton Hall went up 45-35 with 14:31 to play. Two free throws by John Allen with 2:20 to go gave Seton Hall its biggest lead, 69-51.
St. John's shot 33 percent from the field (20-for-59).
