QUEENS, N.Y. - St. John's takes on Stony Brook Wednesday at Carnesecca Arena. On Tuesday, Red Storm head coach Norm Roberts and members of the team met with the media to discuss the matchup.
Head Coach Norm Roberts
On the importance of playing with consistency:
"We have to play at a consistent level and that includes paying attention to details and playing with intensity. We cannot have a situation where we relax and lose focus because that is when teams get back into the game. We must play consistently from start to finish."
On Wednesday night's opponent, Stony Brook:
"Stony Brook is very similar to the team we had last year. They have a new coach who is trying to turn things around, trying to build a foundation and get the guys to play a certain way. We can't take them lightly because some teams took us lightly last season and we ended up winning. We have to come out focused and ready to play."
Senior foward Ryan Williams
On the team's versatility:
"We have more depth now. Each player brings something different to the team and on any given night that something might be what we need to win the game. The most important thing is winning games."
On BIG EAST games:
"Last season, Daryll and Lamont were the only players that knew what to expect when it came to BIG EAST games and the atmosphere surrounding them. This season is different because most of us have a year of experience under our belts. Now we can help the younger guys and we'll all be better prepared."
Junior guard Daryll Hill
On preparation for big games:
"The best we can do to prepare is to keep practicing and work on pressuring teams. Everybody has been playing hard in games and in practice so we have to keep that intensity level up."
On the team's improvement:
"It's not hard to be patient when you see improvement because you know that one day all the pieces will come together. The team understands what we have to do and it's a process. We have to just keep practicing hard every day and play with intensity.
