St. John???s Head Coach Norm Roberts
On his team???s performance:
???We played a complete game tonight and we played very well. Anthony Mason Jr., Avery Patterson and Ricky Torres really did a good job on their perimeter guys and didn???t allow them to get easy looks. Our inside guys did a great job of showing an inside presence and attacked the hoop.???
On senior guard Daryll Hill???s absence from the game:
???He had some soreness in his knee. He came to me and said ???Coach, my knee is sore,??? so I told him he should take the night off. It???s early in the season and we need to do what is best for him and his future. We???re going to take it day by day and not rush him.???
On his team???s progress:
???When everyone is sharing the basketball, it is really fun to play the game. These guys know that and they want to play like that. We are going to keep getting better at that. We???re seven games into a long season. We???re going to get better every game. Everyone would like to start out great but I???d rather be pretty good in February when it counts.???
Sophomore Forward Anthony Mason Jr.
On St. John???s 17-0 run in the first half:
???It???s always fun to play the game but on a streak like that where we we???re out on the break, giving the ball up, making the pass to the extra man, it is a lot of fun to be a part of. There was a lot of energy and intensity.???
On the performance of sophomore guard Eugene Lawrence:
???He was really good. He found the open man. He found [Avery] Patterson in the corner, me up top and [Lamont] Hamilton in the post. He played like a real point guard and settled things down, forfeited things and did a really good job.???
Senior Center Lamont Hamilton
On his performance tonight:
???In earlier games, I???ve gotten a little frustrated and that put me out of my game. Today, I made sure I wasn???t going to get frustrated because my teammates are depending on me and believing in me. I made sure I stayed strong.???
On the absence of Hill:
???We???re a better team with him, of course. Any one of our players can go down and we have depth, so other guys are going to have to step it up. That is what we did today.???
Sophomore Guard Eugene Lawrence
On playing without Hill:
???Coach informed us that Daryll wasn???t going to play today and everyone was intent and focused. Whether you started or coming off the bench, everyone had to step it up a notch.???
On the performance of freshman Larry Wright:
???I think Larry Wright did a good job tonight. We told him to go out there, play basketball and that we believe in him.???
UMBC Head Coach Randy Monroe
On his team???s effort:
???I???m proud of my team???s effort. They fought very hard tonight. Obviously we???re disappointed because we didn???t play as well as we thought we should have. All that tells me though is that our team is growing. I am grateful for that and look forward to coaching this team the rest of the season.???
