Postgame Quotes: St. John??' 68, NJIT 50
12/21/2006 12:00:00 AM | Men's Basketball
St. John???s Head Coach Norm Roberts
On th egame and the team???s five game winning streak:
???I???m happy that we won the game, but I???m not happy with the way we played. My job is to get us to play our best basketball. My job is to develop our guys and make them better. We can lose a game but if I know that we are developing and getting better and we gave it all we go, I can live with that. But when I see that we are doing things that we can do a lot better, it frustrates me. But we will get better.???
On NJIT:
???They played hard and have some guys that can shoot. I give them a lot of credit for the first half. They did a really good job.???
On Larry Wright:
???Larry does some really good things when it comes to shooting the ball. We need to get him to be more intent defensively and make him a good defender. He made some big shots for us tonight and did some good things for us in the game.???
On the break between games:
???I would not have liked to off this long, we don???t like to schedule games during finals. So we knew our legs would be a bit sluggish. But tomorrow we will go out and practice and get ready for Columbia. Columbia is a good team and they have played really well. We are going to have to be a lot more focused for Saturday.???
Junior Guard Avery Patterson
On the first half:
???We did not play up to our potential tonight. We needed to come out a play harder and that???s what we did in the second half.???
Senior Guard Daryll Hill
On his feelings about the win:
???I???m happy that we won but I believe we could have played much better, could have executed and played better defense. We could have done a lot of things better tonight that would have made me happier about the win.???
On what needs to be done for the game against Columbia:
???We are going to come into practice tomorrow and work on things that need to be fixed from tonight???s game. We???re going to watch tape, listen to the criticism and just come out stronger against Columbia.???
NJIT Head Coach Jim Casciano
On tonight???s game:
???We???re still very young. I liked our effort tonight. We will just build on it and do what we have to do. With 13 minutes to go it was a five point game but St. John???s played in great spurts. [Avery] Patterson can just light it up and [Lamont] Hamilton who can take over in the paint.???
On the team???s effectiveness in the first half:
???St. John???s hadn???t played since December 9th. I think our matchups frustrated them. I told the team that this game could not get above 70 percent and we accomplished that. But we knew coming into the game that during the second half, St. John???s was going to come out strong.???
