Norm Roberts
Head Coach, St. John???s
On tonight???s game:
???We have to give St. Francis credit. They play a style right now where they slow it down and are patient offensively. But our guys did a good job of grinding it out and defending, rebounding when we had to and executing when we had to.???
On Qa???rraan Calhoun???s performance against the Terriers:
???He gave us a lot of energy, and he had a tip in and a big three-pointer. He???s getting more aggressive every game and he had a good one tonight.???
On St. Francis:
???I know Coach Nash does a great job with his team. They are struggling right now and are trying to find their way, but we knew that they would come in a play with passion. Half of his players are from Brooklyn and Manhattan, all of our guys have played with each other and they are going to come in here and play hard. Allan Sheppard is the type of player who is going to come in here and give all he???s got.???
On Anthony Mason, Jr.:
???He did some energy things tonight and got himself some baskets. He???s getting more mature in those regards and he feels more comfortable making plays on the energy side of the ball. He is getting better at that.???
On the Red Storm effort:
???I???m happy that we grinded it out. We found a way to win the game. We found a rotation that helped us. That shows guys that even when the ball is not going into the basket and it is not perfect, you can still win. You have to battle through it and be tough.???
Freshman Forward Qa???rraan Calhoun
On what Coach Roberts told the team during halftime:
???He told us to come out and play hard. The pace was so slow in the game, so he wanted us to pick it up and bring some energy into the game.???
On his efforts in the beginning of the second half:
???I just came out and played my game. I tried to get into the flow quickly and play aggressive like Coach said. I tried to look to see if my teammates were open and make plays.
Senior Forward Lamont Hamilton
On Qa???rraan Calhoun:
???Qa???rraan [Calhoun] played really good tonight. He can do a little bit of everything, so it was great having him come in off the bench. He definitely helped pump everyone up because we saw him hustling around the court. It just made everyone start following his energy.???
Daryll Hill
Senior Guard
On tonight???s game:
???St. Francis is one of those teams that you have to get up for. Even though they weren???t executing the way they wanted to, they played hard. We knew it was going to be a physical game. They are a physical team and so are we. Any team that we play at home is going to try and get under our skin, but we knew we just needed to stay strong.???
Brian Nash
Head Coach, St. Francis
On tonight???s game:
???I???m happy with our effort. We are trying to get a lot of moral victories right now. Coming in here, we knew we were going to play as hard as we did because it was a New York battle and we have a lot of kids from the area. We did a good job defensively in the first half, but in the second half St. John???s got some baskets and their athleticism took over. They play hard and physical. They are a good basketball team.???
On the Terriers??? start to the season:
???We played a lot of tough teams, but for us it comes down to our conference schedule. Playing BIG EAST teams and Atlantic-10 teams is only going to prepare us for our conference play. By the end of this week???s conference schedule, we hope to be 1-1. If we are at .500 by the end of December, we should be in good shape.???
