QUEENS, N.Y. - On Wednesday, Jan. 25 St. John's student-athletes volunteered at the Athletic Department sponsored blood drive held in Carnesecca Arena. Athletes from various sports assisted New York Blood Center workers with registration and at the fueling station, as well as donating.
"I donate whenever I can," said Laura Sudano of the women's volleyball team. "I feel I have a responsibility to donate because my blood is CMV negative, which is rare. Because of this newborn babies are capable of receiving my blood. Not too many people are able to do that."
The blood drive gave the St. John's community the opportunity to help the less fortunate. St. John's more than doubled its donations from last January's drive and surpassed the events goal, which was 85 pints. At the end of the day, 114 pints of whole blood were donated.
St. John's will hold its next blood drive on Feb. 22 and 23 in Council Hall and at the Law School, respectively. For questions regarding the blood drive, please contact Paula Migliore at 718-990-6426 or migliorp@stjohns.edu.
