QUEENS, N.Y. - On Tuesday, many St. John's student-athletes volunteered their time to help with the New York Blood Center blood drive. The 11-hour event, sponsored by the Offices of Athletics and Community Relations, was held on the varsity courts of the Taffner Field House.
"This is a great opportunity for the student-athletes to take the time out of their busy schedules to go out and draw people into the event, and in some cases give blood themselves," said Fr. Tri Minh Duong, Campus Minister for Athletics, who was responsible for organizing the event.
Athletes from various sports helped work on-site with the registration of donors and were there to offer drinks and goodies for replenishment upon the completion of the donating process. At the end of the day, 85 whole blood donations were made, for a total of 113 pints.
