Kovaleva Earns ECAC Volleyball Player Of The Week Honors

QUEENS, N.Y. - Red Storm volleyball senior Valeria Kovaleva was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division I volleyball player of the week, the league announced Wednesday. The honor comes after the senior earned BIG EAST Player of the Week accolades, and St. John's pair of 3-1 wins over conference foes Villanova and Seton Hall last weekend.
Kovaleva posted her team-leading 16th double-double of the season against Villanova on Nov. 1, leading all players in the match while registering a career-high 21 kills and picking up 13 digs in the victory. The next day, she recorded a match-high 18 kills and a team-high .400 hitting percentage, leading STJ to a 3-1 win over Seton Hall.
Kovaleva ranks first on the team with 297 kills (3.30 per set). She has tallied a team-high 26 service aces and her 3.69 digs per set ranks second on the team.
The Red Storm has an overall record of 18-7 and is in first place in the BIG EAST with a 9-1 mark. Kovaleva and St. John's return to action on Friday, Nov. 7, against the Bulls of USF. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Carnesecca Arena.
