Five Players Awarded With All-BIG EAST Honors

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - A total of five St. John's men's soccer players took home All-BIG EAST honors, as announced by the conference at the annual banquet. Junior Sverre Wegge Gundhus was named to the first team, while seniors Nelson Becerra, Ben Clack, Joel Gustafsson and redshirt junior Tadeu Terra earned second team accolades.
This is the first-career BIG EAST honor for Wegge Gundhus. The junior has started all 18 games for the Red Storm this season and leads the team with 17 points. Wegge Gundhus has a team-best seven assists and is tied for the team lead with five goals, including one game-winner.
Becerra, meanwhile, earns conference accolades for the second-straight year. The BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year and a first team honoree in 2008, the midfielder has appeared in all 18 games and has started in seven contests. Becerra has three goals and four assists on the year.
A defender, Clack also takes home conference recognition for the first time in his career. Clack has played in 13 games, including 12 starts, and has helped solidify a defensive unit that has posted nine shutouts and allowed just 10 goals in 18 games.
The BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year and a first team choice in 2008, Gustafsson earns conference honors for the third-straight year. The senior, a BIG EAST honorable mention in 2007, appeared in all 18 games and made 17 starts. Gustafsson tallied one assist on the year and anchored a defensive line that has posted a 0.50 goals against average.
Terra, meanwhile, is awarded with conference honors for the second-straight year. A BIG EAST honorable mention in 2008, the midfielder ranks second on the team with 12 points. Terra is tied for the team lead with five goals, including two game-winners, and also has two assists.
St. John's takes on Providence in the BIG EAST Semifinals at 3 p.m. on Nov. 13.
