QUEENS, N.Y. - Redshirt senior Derby Carrillo and sophomore Connor Lade have each earned BIG EAST weekly honors for the final week of the regular season. Carrillo was named Goalkeeper of the Week, while Lade was selected as the Defensive Player of the Week.
The BIG EAST honor for Carrillo is his third of the season and of his career. The keeper earned Goalkeeper of the Week honors twice and was named to the honor roll once. Lade, meanwhile, earns his second-career conference honor, having been named to the honor roll once as a freshman.
Carrillo posted consecutive shutouts against DePaul and Syracuse to help the Red Storm clinch the No. 2 seed in the Red Division and a first round bye in the BIG EAST Tournament. After shutting out the Blue Demons on Senior Night in Queens, Carrillo made four saves against the Orange. The shutouts were the seventh and eighth of the season for Carrillo.
Lade tallied his first-career goal in a 2-0 win against Syracuse and also helped a defensive unit that allowed a total of just four shots on goal on the weekend. After holding the Blue Demons to zero shots on goal, Lade and the defense limited the Orange to just four shots on goal.
St. John's will host quarterfinal action at 6 p.m. on Nov. 7. The Red Storm will face the winner of the West Virginia vs. Rutgers first round game.
