NOTRE DAME, Ind. (AP)--Justin Burrell scored a team-high 17 points and Sean Evans picked up his seventh double-double of the season, but that was not enough as the Red Storm fell to Notre Dame, 74-55, in the regular season finale Friday night at the Joyce Center.
Notre Dame took control in the first half, when Luke Harangody scored nine points during a 17-6 run, opening a 30-16 lead when he sank a 3 pointer. The Fighting Irish led, 36-24, at halftime and led by as many as 21 in the second half.
St. John's outrebounded the Irish, 44-40, and only committed eight turnovers in the game. Burrell finished with 17 points, the most he's scored since he picked up 18 the last time the two teams met - an upset victory over then-No. 7/10 Notre Dame on Jan. 3 at Madison Square Garden. The sophomore also had eight rebounds.
The Irish (17-13, 8-10 BIG EAST) were led by Harangody, who had 31 points and 12 rebounds.
St. John's (15-16, 6-12) still awaits seeding for a Tuesday, March 10, game in the BIG EAST Tournament at Madison Square Garden.
