QUEENS, N.Y. -
The St. John's baseball team will take to the field for the first time since Saturday, May 2, hosting the defending BIG EAST Tournament champion Louisville Cardinals for a three-game set. The series opens at 6 p.m. on May 8 before a 1 p.m. first pitch on May 9. The teams will take to the field on May 10 at 11:30 a.m. for the series finale.
Inside The Series With Louisville
St. John's has met Louisville just six times in a series that began in 2007; two years after the Cardinals joined the BIG EAST Conference in 2005. The Red Storm leads the series, 4-2, taking two of three games in both 2007 and 2008.
Scouting The Cardinals
Louisville is 34-13 on the year, including a 14-6 mark in BIG EAST play. The Cardinals are coming off a pair of victories against No. 25 Ohio State and a pair of wins against Villanova in a rain-shortened Villanova series. Louisville is riding a five-game winning streak. Chris Dominguez, the defending BIG EAST Co-Player of the Year, leads the team in batting average (.372), home runs (16), RBI (64) and stolen bases (17). Phil Wunderlich has 13 home runs and 56 RBI, while Andrew Clark and Adam Duvall add eight home runs apiece.
STORMTRACKER
Karmas Named To BIG EAST Weekly Honor
Paul Karmas was named to the BIG EAST weekly honor after helping St. John's to a 3-2 week that included a series win against Seton Hall. Karmas batted an even .500 (11-for-22), including .571 (8-for-14) in conference play. The sophomore added a .773 slugging percentage, three doubles, one home run and eight RBI.
Kemp Reaches 200-Career Hit Plateau
Brian Kemp recorded his 200th career hit on May 2 in the tenth inning of the second game of a double header against Seton Hall. The junior needed just 135 games to reach the milestone. Kemp has 70 hits this season, nine shy of entering the all-time top ten for hits in a season for the second time in his career. The outfielder had 80 hits as a freshman, tying for eighth all-time in a single season and added 50 hits in an injury-shortened sophomore campaign in which he played just 36 games. Kemp needs 10 more hits to enter the all-time top ten for hits in a career at St. John's.
