Diana Banya Named To BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

QUEENS, N.Y. - Senior captain Diana Banya was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Banya notched a career-high 19 kills and added five digs against Connecticut on Sunday, leading the Red Storm to a thrilling five-set victory over the conference rival. The outside hitter is currently third on the team with 158 kills in 2010 and is averaging a team-high 2.39 kills per set.
The award marks the first time of her career that she has received a weekly honor and second time this season for the St. John's volleyball team. Junior Anzelika Lukjanska earned the same honor for her performance in the St. John's Classic (Sept. 3-4).
St. John's 3-2 victory over the Huskies improves the team to 14-9 overall and 1-5 in the BIG EAST. The Red Storm also matched a season-high with 12 service aces in the match, including six from freshman libero Korina Yee.
STJ returns home to Carnesecca Arena on Friday, Oct. 22, for its annual Dig For The Cure Match at 7 p.m. The Red Storm currently leads the all-time series 9-7 over the Scarlet Knights.
