PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Junior captain Darlene Ramdin was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday afternoon, as announced by the conference office. Ramdin led the St. John's volleyball team to wins over USF and Georgetown this weekend to help keep the team's postseason hopes alive.
Ramdin recorded an impressive .521 attacking percentage and averaged 4.14 kills per set over the weekend. She notched a career-high .643 hitting percentage against Georgetown on Sunday, registering a season-high 20 kills with only two errors on 28 attempts. The middle hitter also added 10 blocks, including eight against Georgetown. She now has 271 career blocks, which places her eighth on STJ's all-time list.
The award marks the second time Ramdin has received a weekly honor in her career and is her first of the season. Ramdin picked up a BIG EAST Player of the Week award last season (Sept. 7). This is the third BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll mention the Red Storm has received in 2010. Diana Banya and Anzelika Lukjanska both earned the honor earlier this season.
St. John's is now 18-11 overall and 5-7 in conference play. The Red Storm is currently tied for eighth place in the BIG EAST heading into the final weekend of the regular season. Five teams have already secured a place in the conference tournament, leaving three spots available for eight possible teams, including St. John's.
The Red Storm will look to continue its three-match winning streak and work its way into the postseason at 4 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 12 at West Virginia. STJ will then travel north to Pittsburgh to play the Panthers in the regular season finale on Sunday at 2 p.m.
