QUEENS, N.Y. - Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Rafael Diaz has earned second team All-Freshman honors from Soccer America, as announced by the publication. One of 22 players honored, Diaz was one of four BIG EAST players to earn All-Freshman accolades.
Diaz started all 18 games and went 10-6-2 between the pipes in his rookie campaign. The keeper posted eight shutouts, a 0.84 goals against average and a .831 save percentage. Offensively, Diaz also tallied one assist.
The keeper closed out the regular season by posting six-straight clean sheets, which was one shy of tying the school-record. Diaz also posted a scoreless stretch that spanned 628:26. Among the teams that were kept off the board in the six-game span was a pair of ranked opponents in then-No. 5 Connecticut and then-No. 24 USF.
