St. John's Hosts Fairfield In 2010 Home-Opener

QUEENS, N.Y. - After opening the season with 13 games on the road, the St. John's baseball team will host Fairfield in its 2010 home-opener at 3 p.m. on March 16. St. John's (8-5) is coming off a 7-6 win against Liberty in 11 innings, while Fairfield (5-3) has not taken the field since March 10 because of weather cancellations.
Stat Of The Week
12-2: St. John's is 12-2 in home openers with head coach Ed Blankmeyer at the helm. The Red Storm has won seven-straight openers dating back to a 2002 win against FDU.
Inside The Series With Fairfield
- St. John's and Fairfield have met 26 times in an all-time series that dates back to 1957.

Scouting The Stags (5-3)

Parque's Hitting Streak Reaches 17 Games
- Parque doubled in the eighth inning against in the series finale against Liberty to extend his hitting streak to 17 games.
- The streak dates back to the final four games of the 2009 season.
- The senior also had a team-best 23-game hitting streak in 2009.
Hansen Earns No-Decision In First-Career Start
- Freshman Kyle Hansen allowed two runs in 5.0 innings of work to earn a no-decision on March 14 against Liberty in his first-career start.
- Hansen allowed three hits, all singles, tallied five strikeouts and retired the leadoff batter in each inning.
- Prior to the start, the righty had made three relief appearances, earning his first-career win with 2.1 shuout innings against Illinois on Feb. 28.
Valcarcel Makes First-Career Start In The Field
- Senior pitcher Miguel Valcarcel made his first-career start in the field, batting ninth and playing first base on March 13 at Liberty.
- Valcarcel, who had previously made 51 career appearances on the mound, went 1-for-4 with a single in the eighth inning.
