Wessinger Named To BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

QUEENS, N.Y. - After helping St. John's to a perfect 5-0 week, sophomore Matt Wessinger has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, as announced by the Conference. The accolade marks the first career BIG EAST honor for the second baseman.
Wessinger batted .435 (10-for-23) with two doubles, two home runs and a team-best 11 RBI on the week. In a three-game BIG EAST sweep of Georgetown, the sophomore batted .462 (6-for-13) with eight RBI and a pair of home runs.
The second baseman connected on his first home run of the season in an 8-7 series-opening, walk-off win against the Hoyas, tying the game with a three-run blast in the bottom of the eighth inning. In the first game of a double-header the following day, Wessinger launched a walk-off home run in the bottom of the tenth inning to give St. John's a 14-13 victory.
Wessinger had four multi-hit performances and three multi-RBI games on the week, including one four-RBI output and two three-RBI contests.
