QUEENS, N.Y. - Following a 3-1 week that included a series win against Notre Dame, St. John's freshmen Jeremy Baltz and Kyle Hansen have been named to the BIG EAST weekly honor roll. Baltz earns an honor roll mention for the third time this year, while Hansen, the April 19 BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week, garners his second-career Conference accolade.
Baltz batted .471 (8-for-17) on the week, including a .500 (6-for-12) average in BIG EAST play. The freshman had two doubles and led the team in home runs (3), RBI (7), total bases (19) and slugging percentage (1.118). With his 12th home run of the season, a two-run, opposite field blast on May 2 against the Irish, Baltz broke the St. John's single season record for home runs by a freshman. The left fielder tied the mark one day earlier with a two-run home run on May 1. The old record of 11 was set in 1986 by Robert Lambraia, who went on to earn second team Freshman All-America honors from Baseball America.
Hansen, meanwhile, won his third-straight start, improving his record to 6-1 with a win against Notre Dame. The freshman allowed just one first-inning run in a career-high 7.2 innings. The righty tallied nine strikeouts and walked just one batter in the contest, while lowering his ERA to 4.08 on the year.
In BIG EAST games only, Baltz currently ranks first in average (.451), second in slugging percentage (.887), on-base percentage (.519), and home runs (8) and third in RBI (24). Hansen ranks tied for third in wins (3) and fourth in strikeouts (36) in conference games.
