QUEENS, N.Y. - Freshman Jeremy Baltz has been named a Louisville Slugger second team All-American, as announced by Collegiate Baseball newspaper. St. John's has had a Collegiate Baseball All-American in three-straight seasons and has now had five players receive All-America status from the publication.
The 2010 BIG EAST Rookie of the Year and a unanimous first team All-BIG EAST honoree, Baltz is batting .393 with 20 home runs, 74 RBI and a .741 slugging percentage. The freshman, who has started in all 58 games this season, also has 58 runs scored, 16 doubles and a .471 on-base percentage. In the regular season, Baltz led the BIG EAST in RBI (71) and slugging percentage (.771) and was tied for the lead league in home runs (20).
Baltz has also made his mark in the St. John's record books. The outfielder broke the program's single season records in both home runs and RBI on May 14 when he homered four times in a win against Louisville. The outfielder concluded the regular season as the nation's leader in home runs by a freshman.
Baltz joins a Red Storm group of Collegiate Baseball All-Americans that includes pitchers Craig Hansen and Anthony Varvaro, both third team honorees in 2005, George Brown, a 2008 second team selection, and Tim Morris, a third team choice in 2009.
