Wessinger Earns Spot On BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

QUEENS, N.Y. - After helping lead St. John's to a perfect 4-0 week, including a ninth-straight home-opening victory, junior Matt Wessinger has been named to the BIG EAST weekly honor roll. This is the second-career BIG EAST accolade for Wessinger, who was also named to the honor roll on April 26, 2010.
Wessinger batted a team-high .474 (9-for-19), with four doubles, one home run and three RBI for the Red Storm. The second baseman had four multi-hit games, posted a team-best .842 slugging percentage and added a .474 on-base percentage.
The junior was 2-for-4 with a double in a 2-1 10-inning, walk-off win against Fairfield before going 2-for-5 with an RBI as St. John's defeated Albany. Wessinger then went 2-for-5 with a double, a home run and two RBI to lead the Red Storm in a win against Albany and closed out the weekend with a 3-for-5 day, including two doubles, in a win at Holy Cross.
Wessinger currently ranks tied for first in the BIG EAST with seven doubles, while Joe Panik is third in batting average (.418) and second in on-base percentage (.547), and Jeremy Baltz is second in RBI (23).
St. John's (9-8), which is riding a four-game winning streak, currently ranks first in fielding percentage (.979), tied for third in doubles (32), fourth in RBI (107) and runs (119), and fifth in batting average (.282), slugging percentage (.389) and on-base percentage (.378).
