NEW YORK, N.Y. -
- St. John's allowed just 20 second-half points, the second-lowest allowed in any half this season.
- The Red Storm shot a season-low 32.8%, but also allowed a season-low opponent shooting percentage of 28.8 percent.
- The Red Storm set a school record with 15 blocked shots, besting the record of 13 rejections set against Army on Jan. 27, 1982.
- St. John's pulled down 40 rebounds in the win, their third-highest rebounding total of the year. The 17 boards on the offensive end were just one off the season high of 18 set against NJIT.
- The Red Storm grabbed 11 steals as a team, setting a new season high.
Individual Notes
- Chris Obekpa blocked 11 shots in the contest, breaking his own school record of eight blocks against Detroit in the season opener on Nov. 13, 2012. It's the first game of Obekpa's career that he recorded double-digit blocks. The freshman forward/center has now blocked five or more shots in five of the ten games of the season and is now averaging 4.9 blocks per game.
- Freshman JaKarr Sampson led all scorers with 16 points and also grabbed ten rebounds. It's the second double-double of the forward's career, as he scored 15 points and pulled down 17 rebounds against NJIT on Dec. 1, 2012. Sampson has now scored in double-figures in eight games and recorded double-digit rebounds in three contests.
- D'Angelo Harrison finished with 14 points which extends his season-long strong of double-digit scoring efforts to ten games. The sophomore guard is now averaging 20.2 points per game on the season. Harrison totaled five steals for the game topping his career-high of four which he last recorded against Detroit on Nov. 13, 2012.
- Phil Greene IV tied for the team lead with four assists and did not turn the ball over. Greene IV entered the game with a 1.9 assist-to-turnover ratio and increased that to 2.1 after the contest.
