QUEENS, N.Y. - After earning his first win of the season with 7.0 scoreless innings in a series-opening 3-0 win against Connecticut, James Lomangino has been selected to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
The righty totaled seven strikeouts, his third-straight start with at least seven punchouts, and scattered four hits, while walking three batters against the Huskies. The 7.0 innings of work marked a career-high for the righty, who has now tossed at least 6.0 innings in 5-of-8 starts this season. Lomangino, who had been saddled with a no-decision in each of his past four starts, improved his record to 1-2 this season with the win.
Lomangino is currently tied for third in the BIG EAST with 49 strikeouts and ranks tied for first with 24 strikeouts in league play only.
St. John's leads the league with 72 doubles and ranks fourth with 172 runs scored. Individually, Frank Schwindel ranks tied for second with 33 RBI and ranks eighth with a .508 slugging percentage. Schwindel and teammates Zach Lauricella and Sean O'Hare are each tied for second in the league with 12 doubles, while Martin Kelly and Danny Bethea are both tied for sixth with 10 two-baggers.
St. John's returns to action at 3:30 p.m. on April 9 for a game at Columbia.
