QUEENS, N.Y. - Junior first baseman Frank Schwindel has earned first team Capital One Academic All-District honors, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The selection gives St. John's at least one Academic All-District honoree in each of the past eight seasons.
A sport management major with a 3.36 GPA, Schwindel is batting a team-high .337 to go with a team-leading 46 RBI in 47 games. The first baseman is also tied for first on the squad with four home runs and ranks second with 18 doubles.
Schwindel leads the team with 19 multi-hit games, including one five-hit performance, and also has a team-best 10 multi-RBI games, including a career-high six-RBI game and one five-RBI performance.
The junior ranks third in the BIG EAST, tied for 15th nationally, in doubles and also ranks fourth in the league, tied for 41st nationally, in RBI. With just one strikeout every 12.9 at-bats, Schwindel is also the fourth-toughest player in the BIG EAST to strike out.
As a first team selection, Schwindel is now added to the ballot for Capital One Academic All-America consideration.
