Palgutova Named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

QUEENS, N.Y. - Junior Karin Palgutova was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon. In a 1-1 week for St. John's (17-10, 6-6 BIG EAST), Palgutova racked up 5.29 kills per set and 3.86 digs per set. She led the team in kills and was second in digs in both matches.
Palgutova recorded a match-high 20 kills and 18 digs in a 3-1 loss against Seton Hall on Thursday to record her 11th double-double of the season.
The native of Bratislava, Slovakia, capped off the weekend with a match-high 17 kills on a .314 attacking percentage in a 3-0 win against Villanova Saturday, while also chipping in two service aces and nine digs. The Red Storm improved to .500 in league play with the victory over the Wildcats and currently sits in sixth place in the conference standings.
This is the first time this season and sixth time in her career that Palgutova has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. She was also named BIG EAST Player of the Week in consecutive weeks to begin the season (Sept. 1 and Sept. 8).
Palgutova becomes the third St. John's player to make the BIG EAST Honor Roll this season. Junior Shawna-Lei Santos was awarded on Oct. 20, while senior captain Aleksandra Wachowicz was honored twice (Sept. 15 and Sept. 22).
