Harrison Earns Second Straight MBWA Player of the Week Award

QUEENS, N.Y. - D'Angelo Harrison collected Co-Player of the Week honors from the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) on Tuesday earning the award for the second straight week. Harrison helped elevate St. John's to No. 20 in the AP Poll and break into the USA Today Coaches Poll at No. 23 by averaging a team-high 24.0 points in two wins last week. He shared the award with Baruch's Granville Gittens (24.0 ppg, 2 games).
The Red Storm improved to 8-1 overall with a pair of 20+ point victories over Fordham and Fairleigh Dickinson. Harrison was a key contributor shooting 61.5 percent (16-26) from the field and he hit all 12 free-throw attempts as St. John's extended its winning streak to four games.
Harrison scored a game-high 26 points and grabbed six rebounds in St. John's largest victory of the year, a 74-52 rout of Fairleigh Dickinson on Wednesday. Then on Sunday, Harrison scored 22 points and hit 8-of-12 field goal attempts to lift the Red Storm to a 74-53 win over Fordham in the MSG Holiday Festival. It was his third consecutive 20-point performance.
Standing with 1,778 career points, Harrison ranks sixth on St. John's career scoring chart. He currently leads the BIG EAST averaging 19.7 points and is sixth in rebounding with 7.2 boards per game.
